Birmingham City make important transfer decision for fan favourite
Following the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, the Blues have declared which players they have kept and discharged. One player’s extension has triggered, two have received new deals, and five first-team players will be leaving.
The five players pictured exiting the building are record signing Ivan Sunjic, veteran defender Marc Roberts, top servant Gary Gardner, out-of-sorts attacker Scott Hogan, and backup goalie Neil Etheridge. However, veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy and renowned striker Lukas Jutkiewicz have been granted new contracts, and dangerous winger Keshi Anderson’s term has been extended by a year.
The news that the latter is being persuaded to extend his stay will be especially well-received by Bluenoses, since Jutkiewicz is a beloved player. Despite the fact that his career is coming to an end, the 35-year-old still contributes greatly in the locker room and is a respectable target man off the bench.
Jutkiewicz played in the last stages of games much of the season, but he only managed three goals in 28 Championship games. Though his determination to assist Blues win promotion from League One at the earliest opportunity and the prospect of a potential increase in playing time make it unlikely that “the Juke” will go.
There will be disagreements on the offer for Ruddy because, although he is an excellent shot-blocker, his distribution is lacking. Basically, it depends on who will be in charge of the dugout and whether or not their style of play calls for throwing from the back. If it’s Tony Mowbray, Ruddy might not be the ideal choice because keeping possession is the top priority.
However, it is important to recognize the background, leadership, and mentality Ruddy brings from the back. In addition to new blood, the Blues need that kind of character to stick around if they are to return to the Championship.
