Report claims: 63-year-old expresses interest in Birmingham City job
There have been contradictory rumors regarding Tony Mowbray’s future at St. Andrew’s during his medical vacation. However, it has been reported that interim manager Gary Rowett will step down after their elimination from the Championship.
Time will tell what happens in this case, but the Blues know they have to get this resolved as soon as possible as they get ready for the 2024–2025 season. Now, it is rumored that Steve Bruce has indicated that he would be interested in taking over as Birmingham City manager should the position become available this summer. According to Football Insider, the 63-year-old has ‘let it be known’ to his former side that he would be open to taking up the post if they make a managerial change. Although he hasn’t had a job since being fired by West Brom in October 2022, he isn’t ready to end his career in the dugout just yet. Bruce eyes Blues reunion
Bruce’s managing career has had some amazing moments, many of which occurred at St. Andrew’s.
However, his current performance is a little underwhelming. After more than two years of hardship at Newcastle United, Bruce returned to the dugout with West Brom but was unable to leave a lasting impression.
He hasn’t played in the game since his dismissal in October 2022.
A crucial summer is coming.
As previously stated, only time will tell how this summer’s Birmingham City managerial issue plays out.
Until the questions around Mowbray’s future are resolved, it will be somewhat of a guessing game. But one thing is certain: in the upcoming months, the club must make the necessary corrections.
A swift return to the Championship is imperative, and as several players are certain to go, it is imperative that appropriate replacements be secured prior to the start of the season.
It is unclear who will be in charge come campaign launch—Mowbray, Bruce, or another manager. Work on hiring may truly get on until a manager is in place.
