Targeting an “outstanding” League One striker this summer could be a strategic move for Derby County as they aim for promotion back to the Championship. With James Collins potentially leaving or needing a partner in attack, bolstering the striking department will be crucial for their success next season.

The Rams have positioned themselves well for promotion, needing only four points to secure their return to the second tier. However, manager Paul Warne remains focused on the immediate task at hand, which is securing promotion without any drama.

While Warne may not have had time to think about transfer business amid the promotion push, targeting a top-quality striker from League One could significantly strengthen Derby’s squad for the Championship. An “outstanding” striker with a proven track record of scoring goals in League One would add firepower to the team and provide valuable options up front.

Identifying and securing such a striker will be key for Derby’s ambitions next season, especially if they aim to compete at a higher level and challenge for promotion from the Championship.

Targeting Jonson Clarke-Harris this summer could be a shrewd move for Derby County, especially considering he will be available on a free transfer. With his prolific goal-scoring record in League One, Clarke-Harris would be an attractive addition to the squad, particularly if the Rams secure promotion to the Championship.

His impressive tally of 52 goals in the last three seasons for Peterborough United highlights his ability to find the back of the net consistently. Additionally, his overall record of 107 goals in 276 League One appearances and 19 goals in 87 Championship matches demonstrates his effectiveness at both levels.

Clarke-Harris possesses qualities such as strength, power, and explosive finishing, which make him a formidable presence in front of goal. His potential partnership with James Collins, Derby’s current top scorer, could offer a lethal attacking threat if Collins decides to stay at the club.

However, Collins’ contract situation adds uncertainty to the equation, as he is yet to commit his future to the club. While Collins has been instrumental this season, his goal-scoring record in the Championship is not as prolific as Clarke-Harris’. Therefore, retaining Collins and securing Clarke-Harris’s signature could significantly bolster Derby’s attacking options, especially in the event of promotion.
