After the current international break, West Bromwich Albion will be looking to solidify their spot in the top six rankings.

The Baggies lead seventh-placed Hull City by eight points going into the domestic break. However, they will also want to take fifth place over Norwich City, who are five points ahead of the Baggies.

Championship Table (As it stands March 18th)
Team P GD Pts
1 Leeds United 38 42 82
2 Leicester City 37 41 82
3 Ipswich Town 38 31 81
4 Southampton 36 26 73
5 West Brom 38 23 66
6 Norwich City 38 15 61
7 Hull City 37 7 58
8 Coventry City 37 16 57

West Brom has won 12 of their past 22 league games since the previous international break in November of last year, keeping them in the running to make the Premier League at the third attempt.

Under Corberan, a number of Albion players have been in incredible form lately and are still helping the team strive for promotion at the Hawthorns.

Due to this, a number of the senior players have received calls-ups to their respective national teams. The Baggies will be hoping that these players return unharmed, as their promotion prospects may be at risk.West Brom players selected for international duty

During the most recent international break, five West Brom senior players have been called up to play for their respective nations; Albion’s attacking line has impressed several of these countries in particular.

The Republic of Ireland has called up 24-year-old Mikey Johnston due to his outstanding play in a blue and white shirt since he joined on loan from Celtic in January. Meanwhile, fellow January recruit Andreas Weimann may make his Austrian debut for the first time since 2022.

Tom Fellows, a young player on the right wing who has caused havoc for Championship defenders, has received his first England call-up to the U20 squad.

While Callum Marshall teams up with Johnston following his call-up by Republic of Ireland manager John O’Shea, Semi Ajayi has been a first team mainstay and continues to be picked for Nigeria despite his recent restricted game time in B71.

As previously said, a few West Brom players have earned their chance to play for their country on the international scene by continuously putting up strong performances in the second division while playing for Corberan.

With six goals and one assist in his first ten Championship appearances for the team, including a brace on their most recent away trip to Huddersfield Town, Johnston has made an effect that no Albion supporter could have predicted.

Weimann hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular starter for the Baggies, but his ability to play wide or lead the line makes him a reliable choice to pull off the replacement bench when the games get long. The Austrians’ tenacious efforts on the right flank, which set up Johnston at Huddersfield, served as a driving force behind their victory in West Yorkshire.

Having come through the Black Country development program, Fellows is having a breakout season, forcing Jed Wallace to play central at times as he keeps up his impressive playmaking on the right wing.

The wide player has played more minutes since the start of the year and has scored four goals and provided three assists, with his most recent goal coming against Bristol City last weekend.

All West Brom supporters will undoubtedly feel that the two-week break has been long overdue, and any injury to the team’s forward-thinking players might destroy all of their hard work this season.

Any problem for a brief amount of time might be disastrous with just eight games remaining in the regular season, leaving Corberan without many options as certain crucial fixtures draw near.

The way Patel behaved himself during his first encounter with the Albion squad impressed Jed Wallace.

Albion’s offensive improved significantly during the January transfer window; the squad has been playing much more freely in recent weeks because to the acquisitions of Johnston, Fellows, and Weimann.

Due to their unfortunate string of attacker injuries this season, West Brom may find it difficult to qualify for the play-offs if they lose one of these notable players. This would also lessen the team’s effect in front of goal.

Albion will have the best chance of returning to the top flight if everyone can make it through this phase without suffering any injuries. They should be able to comfortably finish in the top six.
