SUNDERLAND
Former Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds, and Sunderland striker signs a seven-week contract with a League One team.
Connor Wickham, a former striker for Sunderland, has committed to a short-term contract with League One team Charlton through the end of April.
The 30-year-old striker has been working with Charlton for the past two weeks despite being without a club since leaving Cardiff at the end of the previous campaign.
Wickham joined Southampton from Ipswich in 2011 and played for the team for ninety-one games before joining Crystal Palace four years later. While at the Black Cats, the striker was also on loan at Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday.
Nathan Jones, the manager of Addicks, responded to Wickham’s transfer to Charlton by saying on the team website: “Connor has been here for a few weeks and we like the human being, so that’s the start.” His physicality, experience, and talent make him an excellent addition. It will be interesting to see how much we can extract from him, but we’re happy to have him in.”
“I’m excited to be here,” Wickham remarked upon moving to the Valley.I am looking forward to the remaining part of the season because it will give me the chance to work with a strong group of guys and a good boss. The past few results have improved, and there will be a strong push through to the finish of the season.
Seven points above the relegation zone, in 14th place in League One, is Charlton. Wickham’s contract, which runs through the end of April, will be for just over seven weeks, during which the Addicks will play four league games.
