Despite earning numerous accolades on the football field, such as being named All-American and Offensive Lineman of the Year in the Big Ten this past season, Olumuyiwa Fashanu highlighted his proudest achievement off the field during last week’s NFL Combine. The left tackle expressed his joy in graduating a semester early in December, emphasizing the significance of the accomplishment.

Initially projected as a possible first-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, Fashanu decided to return for an extra year at Penn State after realizing he could earn his diploma by staying in State College, PA. Dane Brugler of The Athletic praised Fashanu’s decision, noting that he would have been a top-10 pick in the previous year’s draft. Fashanu’s performance in the 2023 season showcased his prowess as one of the best pass-protecting left-tackle prospects in recent years.

During the NFL Combine, Fashanu met with several teams, including the New York Jets, and spoke highly of his experience, noting “a very good meeting” and receiving “great advice.” When asked about the possibility of playing with legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Fashanu expressed excitement and called it an “awesome” opportunity.

Standing at 6-6 and weighing 312 pounds, Fashanu acknowledged the need to bulk up to contend with top NFL edge rushers, especially if he secures a starting position at left tackle. He highlighted the importance of grip strength in countering high-energy pass rushers, emphasizing that the play isn’t over until the ball is in the air. Fashanu recognized the significance of a great get-off, stating that it contributes to success in 80 percent of plays.
