22-yo will regret leaving West Ham as new report claims he’s surplus to requirements at PL club

16 months ago, West Ham United gave teenage right-back Harrison Ashby permission to sign for Newcastle United.
Harrison Ashby, who is now 22 years old, has not appeared in a single game for Newcastle’s senior squad since leaving West Ham.
I believe that by passing on the gifted Ashby instead of Ben Johnson at the time, the Hammers made a huge mistake.
He received 365 minutes under the Scot (Transfermarkt), even if David Moyes seldom gave him a chance at the London Stadium.

I firmly believe that the 22-year-old right-back possesses all the necessary components to emerge as a game-changing star at the highest level.
All the tools he needs to demonstrate his actual worth aren’t yet available to him.
Overall, Ashby’s season-long loan at Swansea City has been impressive. He averaged two tackles, 1.4 interceptions, and 1.2 clearances per game (Who Scored) and had one goal and one assist in 13 games.
Now that he’s back in Newcastle, things are not looking good for the young man.
A twist by Harrison Ashby raises a pressing question about West Ham.
It appears that the former Hammer’s decision to join Newcastle in 2023 may have been a bad one.
That’s because, following his rapturous praise from Toon boss Eddie Howe last year, a report has revealed a significant twist about his future:
“We believe Ashby is a player with enormous potential. He naturally needs time to grow and develop in this place. Kieran is the perfect mentor who will support him. Our goal was to add more power to that side of the field.
Give Me Sport claims that Howe at St. James’ Park has declared Ashby “surplus to requirements.”
The Scotland under-21 international’s contract was set to expire in the summer, thus the Hammers were compelled to sell him to the Magpies in January 2023.
He had amazing speed, a cunning delivery, strength in the face of difficulty, and remarkable positional awareness for a young player while he was with West Ham.
His decision to join Newcastle at the time was understandable—after all, he wasn’t receiving enough opportunities under Moyes.
He will undoubtedly reflect on his departure from the London Stadium today and believe that he would have been better off staying there.
A multitude of factors prevented Harrison Ashby from having a very good future at West Ham.
Among those was the fact that he chose not to sign a new contract; given Newcastle’s readiness to let him go, he might be regretting that decision right now.
