Darren Moore signed Gregory in the summer of 2021, and he played a major role in the team’s setup throughout the course of the two years in League One, with 36 goals and assists in league games in addition to a few clutch ones in the play-offs.

The 35-year-old scored Wednesday’s first Championship goal during their season-opening return to the second division, but under Danny Röhl’s coaching, he lost favor and, despite constant acclaim for his work ethic and attitude, made his final appearance for the team in December.

Since “Greggers” has an expiration date of June 30th, this summer, The Star understands that he will be leaving Hillsborough as expected. Three English Football League clubs are reportedly eager to try and sign him in order to bolster their attacking ranks for the 2024–2025 season.

It is unclear where the striker will finish up, and he will be keen to consider all of his choices before deciding on his next course of action, but he will undoubtedly depart Hillsborough with a reputation worthy of a local boy who contributed to the greatest play-off comeback in history. His contribution to the play-off miracle and his assist at Wembley have made his name immortalized in Wednesday folklore.

There will likely be more changes at S6 this summer as many contracts are expiring, including Gregory’s. Röhl has stated that he wants to try to finish things up as soon as possible so that they can start getting ready for the upcoming season.
