Tyreece John-Jules, who Paul Warne said on Tuesday was the “best youngster in training,” is vying for a spot in Derby County’s team to play Carlisle United on Saturday.

After initially thinking he would miss the entire season due to a hamstring injury he suffered against Reading in January, the forward for Arsenal on loan has fully healed.

After requiring surgery, John-Jules’ recuperation proceeded so smoothly that the Gunners cleared him to return to Derby, which he accomplished this week.

Now, he will try to contribute to the team’s last promotion assignment against the Cumbrians, where Derby needs to win by one point to guarantee their return to the second division. With John-Jules back, Warne will have more alternatives for his forward lineup for the season’s last game.

“He has been in training,” warned. It’s fantastic to have him back and he is competing for a spot, as they all are, but what bothers me about him is that he came in on Tuesday and was the best kid in training again. He did that ridiculous pass into the floor, it bounces up, and it goes into the goal. I’ve never seen any footballer do that.

“We have some decisions to make, but it’s not as hard after wins because the boys who have been playing the last few weeks have all looked fantastic as well.”
