Paul Warne reveals Derby County scouting mission and player meetings in transfer process

Paul Warne stated that he has already put plans in place to bolster his team with a recruiting drive prior to the Rams’ return to the Championship in August, so he won’t be content with Derby County’s promotion this summer.
With a convincing win over Carlisle United on the penultimate day of the League One season, Derby—who had averaged two points per game over the course of 46 games—deservedly earned promotion. After spending two years in the third tier, the focus is now firmly on how the squad will develop over the next several weeks and months.
In the near future, Warne, who has a lot of calls to make regarding the futures of current players, will continue meeting with players who might be of interest to Derby. The Rams manager also disclosed the arrangements he has made for himself and his team to travel to the continent to personally investigate players who have been flagged as possible targets.
Planned trips to the Netherlands and Denmark are part of the club’s increasing efforts to bolster their roster so they can start the Championship campaign strong.
“The word planning really encompasses a lot of things,” Warne remarked. Since January, we have had recruitment sessions. During the January window, we made an attempt to sign players. To be honest, I’ve been bullying it for the past few weeks by telling them to try and recruit for the Champ instead of League One, and that if we don’t automatically advance, we’ll have a two-week opportunity to rearrange the list.
Assume that we were pursuing ten strikers: the top three are exclusively Champions, the bottom three are exclusively League One, and the middle four are either or. They’re all pretty much the same when someone asks whether there are Championship lists and League One lists. There have been conversations with agents and game viewing.
Since everyone else will also be looking at the free list, we really have to look at it. The Championship list won’t be available until the end of the month. My staff and I are planning to attend games in Denmark and Holland to observe these specific players. I’m meeting another player today or next week, and I met one yesterday.”
