With Alex Mowatt’s contract set to expire this summer, West Brom might lose him for nothing.

When it comes to the midfielder’s long-term future at the Hawthorns, West Brom must make a significant decision.

According to current plans, Mowatt, 29, will be available for free agency at the end of June.

After his stellar season in the middle of the park under Carlos Corberan’s tutelage, the Baggies must grant him an extension as soon as possible.

Mowatt brings skill and experience to West Brom’s ranks as they aim for promotion from the Championship. He has been a key member for the team this season.

The Midlands team drew 2-2 away to Stoke City over the weekend and is currently sitting in the play-offs.

This term, Corberan has given Mowatt plenty of opportunities to express himself and lots of minutes.

In 42 games across all competitions, he has contributed one goal and five assists. His left footedness adds more balance to West Brom’s midfield.

The Doncaster native progressed through Leeds United’s academy system before playing 125 games and scoring 13 goals for the Whites in his youth.

After spending five years at Barnsley, including a stint at Oxford United, he departed Elland Road in 2017.

Last season, Corberan loaned him to Middlesbrough; however, after his return from Riverside, Corberan has given him an opportunity.

Under Michael Carrick, Mowatt assisted Boro in making it to the playoffs the previous season, and West Brom is expected to accomplish the same this time around.

He has demonstrated that he is a top player at the second tier level. You don’t get into the top six twice in a row by accident. It is imperative that West Brom make sure they keep him on staff, particularly if things don’t work out.
