Oklahoma transfer defensive back Jasiah Wagoner has announced his commitment to Cal via social media.

The 5-foot-11, 178-pound Wagoner, a four-star recruit from Spanaway, Wash., missed much of his freshman season with the Sooners in 2023 due to injuries. Despite this, he managed to play in seven games, including the final five, recording three tackles and two pass breakups.

With three years of eligibility remaining, Wagoner could be viewed as a long-term project for the Golden Bears. However, in an era of frequent player movement through the transfer portal, such projects are becoming increasingly rare.

Wagoner was heavily recruited out of Spanaway Lake High School, receiving offers from schools like Notre Dame, Miami, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington. He ultimately chose Oklahoma and enrolled there in January 2023.

While the starting lineup for Cal’s secondary seemed fairly settled during spring practices, performances in preseason training camp and early-season games could lead to changes. At the end of spring ball, the first-team secondary consisted of Marcus Harris and Nohl Williams at cornerback, Miles Williams and Craig Woodson at safety, with Matthew Littlejohn serving as the nickelback.
