Is the Selection of 40-Yard Dash Record Breaker Xavier Worthy in the Bills’ Draft Plans?

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy has potentially caught the attention of the Buffalo Bills for the upcoming NFL Draft.

With the 28th pick in the draft, the Bills are in a win-now mode, and the urgency to strengthen their roster, especially at the receiver position, is apparent. The NFL Scouting Combine showcased impressive 40-yard dashes, but Worthy’s standout performance set a new record with an official time of 4.21 seconds, making him the fastest in Combine history.

Prior to this, Worthy’s draft stock was already within the Top 50, but his remarkable showing may solidify his presence in the first round of mock drafts leading up to the actual draft day.

Buffalo has shown interest in Worthy, holding a formal meeting with him at the Combine. The team’s need for an additional target is evident, with uncertainties surrounding receiver Gabe Davis and rumors surrounding Stefon Diggs.

Despite the effectiveness of the Bills’ offense in 2023, there is a recognized need for a dynamic talent like Worthy. His explosive speed, seen on tape, and his ability to turn any catch into a big play could significantly benefit the team.

However, there are concerns about Worthy’s physicality due to his smaller stature (5-11, 165 pounds). The potential challenges in contested-catch situations and his average hands raise questions about his overall fit in the NFL.

While Worthy’s record-breaking performance at the Combine is commendable, some argue that it doesn’t necessarily make him the ideal pick at No. 28. His incredible speed is already known, and boosting his stock based on the Combine might be considered double-counting.

The Bills will need to carefully evaluate Worthy’s film and performance to determine if he is indeed a worthy choice for their 28th pick in the draft. The team’s requirement for reinforcements at the receiver position could make Worthy a contender in the upcoming mock drafts.
