The Texas Rangers are gearing up for the new baseball season with their pitchers and catchers starting their training in Surprise, Arizona. General Manager Chris Young provided updates on the injured starting pitchers, indicating positive progress for all three.
Jacob deGrom, the ace pitcher, has begun throwing, with his first day of catching showing promising results. His return is anticipated around August, contingent upon his continued progress. Tyler Mahle, a newcomer to the team, started throwing about six weeks ago, targeting a return in July. Max Scherzer, who suffered a back injury in the previous season, is expected to commence throwing soon and is projected to return to the mound in June.
However, there was a setback with Josh Jung, who experienced calf soreness on his first day of exercise. An MRI revealed a calf strain, sidelining him for two to three weeks as he undergoes treatment and monitoring by the medical staff. The hope is for him to return in optimal condition for Opening Day on March 28th, 2024.
Despite these injuries, the Rangers are optimistic, with promising prospects joining the squad for Spring Training. These young players will have opportunities to showcase their talents and potentially fill the gaps left by injuries. As Spring Training progresses, fans and observers will eagerly watch the development of these prospects and their potential impact on the team.
