During the 2024 dance marathon at the Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State THON, the world’s largest student-run charitable organization, achieved another fundraising milestone. The event raised an unprecedented $16,995,683 million for pediatric cancer research and treatment, supporting this cause for over 50 years. The funds go to Four Diamonds, a national non-profit fund covering medical expenses for families dealing with childhood cancer at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital and aiding the Penn State College of Medicine’s cancer research program.

Since its inception in 1973, Penn State THON has generated over $235 million for pediatric cancer research. Over 700 Penn State students participated in the 46-hour event, abstaining from sitting or sleeping, making it a global phenomenon.

Penn State athletics teams, including the men’s basketball team, actively engage in THON by volunteering, attending the event, and performing dance routines. Penn State football contributed to the cause by hosting its annual THON Explorers Program, offering entertainment and interaction for children and families at Holuba Hall. Penn State coach Mike Rhoades attended his first THON during the event.
