Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome extended a scholarship offer to 2025 four-star offensive lineman Marcus Garcia on Tuesday morning, he reported via his Twitter account. The Wolverines join Texas A&M, Nebraska, Florida and Florida State among those who have offered.

The offer to Garcia continues a strong winter push into Texas where almost every current staff member spent time last week on the road.

Let’s start with the bad news that is very much in line with the title of today’s 3R report – “Pro coaching jobs impacting Michigan’s target list”…

Multiple sources have informed me that Michigan analyst Doug Mallory will be leaving the program for the NFL. I’m told he’s heading for Baltimore to be one of the organization’s secondary coaches, likely for the safeties. It’s a role that came open when now former defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson left the Ravens to become the Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator. The 59-year-old Mallory was credited inside the program with playing a significant role in Michigan’s coverage variations on the back end. His last on-field coaching role came as a defensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020. The last three of those years he served as the defensive backs or assistant defensive backs coach.

Next, a source indicated graduate assistant Dylan Roney is also headed to the NFL, likely as a quality control assistant with the Los Angeles Chargers. As I mentioned in the 3R report earlier today, Jesse Minter is among Roney’s biggest fans, so him calling the talented young coach out West isn’t a major surprise. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Michigan targeting Roney for an on-field coaching role. That almost certainly depends on how things shake out with the defensive coordinator job.
