The Philadelphia Eagles are holding out hope for Jalen Hurts’ return as the star quarterback remains in concussion protocol. A recent roster move, however, suggests the team is optimistic about his availability for Sunday’s Wild Card matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

On Tuesday, the Eagles waived backup quarterback Ian Book. Book was signed as added depth after Hurts suffered a concussion in Week 16 but never saw game action. During Hurts’ absence, Tanner McKee started the Week 18 game, while Kenny Pickett led the offense in Week 17.

Although Hurts is still working through the NFL’s concussion protocol, there’s growing confidence he’ll be ready to play. ESPN’s Tim McManus reported Tuesday, “Multiple sources close to Hurts have expressed confidence in his ability to suit up against Green Bay, but it depends on him clearing all stages of the protocol, including approval from an independent neurological consultant.”

Meanwhile, the Eagles have another concern at quarterback, as backup Kenny Pickett is managing a rib injury. If Hurts is cleared to start, McKee could step in as the backup if Pickett is unavailable.

Head coach Nick Sirianni praised the team’s quarterback depth, saying, “I’ve got a lot of confidence in both of those guys. When Kenny’s had to play, he’s played really well. When Tanner’s had to play, he’s played really well. We’ve got a really good quarterback room.”

As the Eagles gear up for their playoff opener, all eyes remain on Hurts. His status will be crucial as Philadelphia takes on Green Bay in what promises to be a pivotal matchup.
