The Chicago Bears are poised to make a significant move before the upcoming NFL league year, and speculation suggests that they might trade Justin Fields to secure Caleb Williams as the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Following the NFL Scouting Combine, rumors circulated that the Atlanta Falcons were leading the race to acquire Fields. However, recent reports indicate that the Falcons may explore a potential trade for Kirk Cousins before considering Fields. The Minnesota Vikings, Cousins’ current team, are also expected to pursue him in free agency. This situation could result in a scenario where the team losing out on Cousins in free agency turns to the Bears and Fields.

Despite initial skepticism, the Vikings have shown interest in Fields, according to reports by Jeremy Fowler. Other teams in the mix for Fields include the Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

While the possibility of a trade with the Raiders can’t be ruled out entirely, Bears General Manager Ryan Poles may prioritize a deal that aligns with Fields’ preferences. Considering the strained relationship between Fields and the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, a trade to Las Vegas might not be the ideal fit.

The Vikings emerge as an intriguing option for Fields, as they were competitive in the NFC North last season and lacked a consistent quarterback. With Fields carrying a manageable salary cap hit of just over $6 million for the upcoming season, he could offer the Vikings financial flexibility to allocate resources elsewhere instead of committing to a veteran like Cousins. However, if a trade with the Vikings materializes, the Bears might seek a “division rival tax” to account for facing Fields at least twice a season in their divisional matchups.
