Assistant for the Broncos decides on future after receiving overtures from foreign team
According to reports, Lee Briers, Kevin Walters’ assistant coach with the Brisbane Broncos, has made a decision regarding his coaching career.
A foreign team was attempting to entice the former Super League player turned coach to leave Red Hill after he said two weeks ago that he hopes to become an NRL head coach.
But according to League Express, Briers turned down the chance to become the head coach of Super League team Hull FC.
Rather, he will continue to coach the attacking unit of the Brisbane Broncos, a position he will hold through the end of the 2025 campaign.
Briers previously stated on the BBC 5 Live podcast, “With coaching, there aren’t many jobs out there but my objective is to be a head coach whether that be in the NRL or Super League.”
“All I can do is continue to gain experience and bide my time till that opportunity arises. I could spend the rest of my life working as an assistant; I’m not in a rush.
However, I’m prepared for the role of head coach right now, whether it’s in a few years or not. I’m learning how to manage and I love it at the Broncos.”
Prior to starting his coaching career, Briers participated in 432 Super League games between 1997 and 2013, 425 of which were while he was a member of the Warrington Wolves.
It is known that his dream job would be head coach of a franchise in the NFL.
