The Championship team appears to be searching for more than just previous players, though, as a new player is currently being predicted to move to Elland Road.
Leeds scouts monitoring the Sunderland player
According to This Is Anfield, Leeds is one of the teams monitoring Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. The story mentions Liverpool’s interest, of course, but it also says that Leicester, Arsenal, and Leeds are all interested in signing the goalkeeper.
Patterson, a 23-year-old from Newcastle who attended Sunderland’s academy, has established himself as the starting striker for the Black Cats. Leeds will thus get a close look at their rumored transfer target when they play Sunderland at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Leeds should be pleased with what they see, if former Sunderland manager Tony Mowabray’s recent remarks on Patterson are any indication.
“The goalie is a top goalie, listen to him.” Having played football for almost 40 years, I can attest to this young player’s exceptional talent and wonderful disposition.
He is unfazed by anything and maintains his composure throughout, not hopping around and losing track of time. He’s a very composed goaltender with excellent saves.
Leeds supporters may anticipate that Patterson will put their team back a significant amount of change based on his performances this season and the reviews he has received. Nonetheless, Transfermarket estimates the goalie’s worth at almost £8 million, despite his current weekly salary of barely £10,000.
It seems sense that teams like Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in Patterson given the comparatively modest costs associated with a possible deal. Leeds, though, may be able to give the young keeper more regular action, and though it’s not official yet, they might even be able to do it in the Premier League, in contrast to most of the teams rumored to be interested in Patterson.
