CHICAGO BEARS
Bears’ Legend, Steve “Mongo” McMichael diagnosed with MRSA.
Chicago Bears icon Steve “Mongo” McMichael underwent a blood transfusion as part of his treatment in the intensive care unit for a urinary tract infection. McMichael, recently inducted into the Hall of Fame, is also battling Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) since his diagnosis in 2021. Despite health challenges, he is responding to antibiotics and a lung fluid removal procedure. The family seeks prayers for his recovery, emphasizing his determination to attend the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in August. McMichael, a key figure in the Bears’ “46 defense,” played 191 consecutive games and holds the franchise’s second-highest sacks record.
