The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for their third attempt at finding the heir apparent for veteran center Jason Kelce, who recently announced his retirement. The first transition plan was set for Isaac Seumalo back in 2016, but Kelce’s continued excellence led Seumalo to establish himself as a solid starter at guard instead. Then, in 2021, the Eagles drafted Landon Dickerson with hopes of grooming him to eventually replace Kelce. However, injuries forced Dickerson into action sooner than expected, and he excelled, earning consecutive Pro Bowl berths.

Now, in 2024, the Eagles are turning to Cam Jurgens, whom they drafted in 2022 with Kelce’s approval. Kelce has been supportive of Jurgens and has been assisting him behind the scenes to prepare for the transition. Jurgens, who played at guard last season, will move back to center and officially take over for Kelce when the 2024 season begins. While Jurgens shares some traits with Kelce, Kelce believes he will develop into his own player.
